Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do

“Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do” is a free, ongoing, two-part series that has been providing helpful, hopeful, practical information free to the community since 1999. This program has made a difference to families struggling with teen substance use, and to others who want to help!

Part One provides information about adolescent substance use, including signs and patterns of a teen substance use problems. Part Two has break-out sessions for adults to learn about strategies to effectively help when adolescent alcohol/other drug use is suspected or identified, and for teens/young people to explore the personal effects of substance use. Part Two ends with adults and young people together hearing a talk by a young person in recovery from a substance use disorder. The series is inclusive of parents, guardians and caretakers of teens/young adults; teens/young people; other family members; people who work with teens and families; students; and anyone who would like to attend for any reason.

The series is presented on the first (part one) and second (part two) Tuesday evenings of October, November, and January through June, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Programs will be presented by the Dawn Farm Youth and Family Services team (Ray Dalton, MA, CAADC; and Jules Cobb, MA, LLPC.) The series is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the WISD/LESA Health Educators’ Learning Network (supporting and advocating for Whole School, Whole Community, and the Whole Child Approach-WSCC,) Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Greenbrook Recovery Center and the Ann Arbor Public Schools.

The series is held in the Exhibition Room (ground floor) at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center, 5305 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197. All presentations are free and open to the public. The presentations are inclusive of teens/young adults, parents/caretakers of teens/young adults, other family members, people who work with teens, students, and anyone interested in attending for any reason. All are welcome, and parents and teens often attend together, Registration is not required. A certificate of attendance can be provided. Free literature will be available.
